Four Lost Temples

The purpose of this project was to investigate through photography four Huacas (pre-Hispanic temples) that are no longer visible to the eye of a walker in the city of Lima, since they have been replaced by modern constructions in different times and historical contexts.
The Huaca Tejadita (I) was located in the district of Surco and the vestiges of its structure could still be appreciated until 2007, when some municipal management project covered the matter with the construction of a cement sports field.
The Huaca Clínica Delgado (II), located between blocks 4 of Angamos Avenue and Chiclayo Street (Miraflores). It was part of the Huaca Pucllana complex and was destroyed in 1946. The huaca takes the name of the Clinic that today occupies its place.
Huaca Viñita (III) in 1985 was included in the "Inventory of Archaeological Monuments of Peru: Metropolitan Lima", and between 2000 and 2002 it was demolished and the land flattened. For 13 years the perimeter of the land had been covered by a wall preventing access to the citizens of the Barranco district. In the year 2014, construction work began on the building belonging to the University of Engineering and Technology (UTEC), whose building currently stands on the foundations of the pre-Hispanic temple in question.
The Huaca Orrantia (IV) was located in the current grounds of the Lima Golf Club, between Los Cedros Street and El Rosario Avenue, 400 m south of the Huaca Huallamarca, in San Isidro. In 1907 and 1908 this huaca appears in two old planes with the name of Orrantia but it is also known as Huaca San Isidro 2.
This project is the result of collaboration with my dear friend and coauthor Iván Salinero.

El propósito de este proyecto fue investigar a través de la fotografía cuatro Huacas (Templos Prehispánicos) que ya no son visibles al ojo de un pasante por la ciudad de Lima, ya que en diferentes épocas y contextos históricos han sido remplazadas por construcciones modernas.
La Huaca Tejadita (I) se encontraba en el distrito de Surco y se podían apreciar todavía los vestigios de su estructura hasta el año 2007, cuando algún proyecto de gestión municipal cubrió el asunto con la construcción de una loza deportiva de cemento.
La Huaca Clínica Delgado (II), ubicada entre las cuadras 4 de la avenida Angamos y la calle Chiclayo (Miraflores). Era parte del complejo de la huaca Pucllana y fue destruida en 1946. La huaca toma el nombre de la Clínica que hoy en día ocupa su lugar.
La Huaca Viñita (III) en 1985 era incluida dentro del “Inventario de Monumentos Arqueológicos del Perú: Lima Metropolitana”, y entre los años 2000 y 2002 fue demolida y el terreno aplanado. Por 13 años el perímetro del terreno había estado cubierto por un muro impidiendo el acceso a los ciudadanos del distrito de Barranco. En el año 2014 iniciaron las obras de construcción del edificio perteneciente a la Universidad de Ingeniería y Tecnología (UTEC) cuyo edificio se erige actualmente sobre los cimientos del templo prehispánico en cuestión.
La Huaca Orrantia (IV) se encontraba en los actuales terrenos del Lima Golf Club, entre la calle Los Cedros y la Av. El Rosario, 400 m al Sur de la Huaca Huallamarca, en San Isidro. En 1907 y 1908 esta huaca aparece en dos planos antiguos con el nombre de Orrantia pero es también conocida como Huaca San isidro 2.
